Call Me Bae Movie Review 2024 Posted on September 12, 2024September 12, 2024 Created by Ishita Moitra, Call Me Bae is Prime Video’s latest offering of ‘women telling women stories’ after Nitya Mehra’s Big Girls Don’t Cry, Debbie Rao’s Dil Dosti Dilemma, and Tahira Kashyap Khurrana’s Sharmajee Ki Beti, which all released on the platform earlier this year. All of these stories explore the experience of being a woman in India as they try to unearth patriarchy and smash it away with cinematic liberty. There’s a strong intent and effort to understand everyday struggles of women through protagonists who come to realise their worth by going on unexpected journeys. Yet, what all of them lack is the means to weave unforgettable scenes that really dismantle fictional layering and speak to you in a deeper sense. Each of these characters, be it Asmara (Anushka Sen) in Dil Dosti… or Kiran Sharma (Divya Dutta) in Sharmaajee Ki Beti, feels more like a subject who has been burdened with a host of ideas. Because their existence is less than what the story wants to say. Ananya Panday’s Bela Chowdhury aka Bae is no exception. Call Me Bae Cast ;- Ananya Panday, Anushka Sen, Divya Dutta, Vir Das, Mini Mathur, Vihaan Samat OTT : PRIME VIDEO She is introduced as someone who is born with a ‘golden spoon’ in a rich family, where her elder brother is given more attention as he will be the ‘true heir’. Bae’s life has been guided largely by the insecurities of her mother, Gayatri (Mini Mathur), who pushes her to fall in love with Agastya (Vihaan Samat) and get married eventually, without caring much about her own dreams. Now, two years later, she is stuck in an unhappy marriage and doesn’t know what more to do with her posh, decorated life. It gets difficult to connect with her in these portions as all of it is told rather quickly, making it difficult to really feel her emotions. Moreover, as if to establish that she is not as entitled as others in her family, we are shown how ‘giving’ she is in a series of awkward sequences where she pays the fine of another ‘poor’ man who is arrested by the cops when she has none left to pay for hers. Or in another public place many hotel managers helped him because he did a lot for them. The simple act of falling in love doesn’t add to his emotional map in the end because it’s scary. The opening scenes cut short her life, which was destroyed by her husband’s adultery, which led to her being humiliated in public and then ostracized by her family. Then another episode begins where he develops a passion for journalism after watching a video of a TV host cooking while drunk, played by Veer Dass. After that, an actor released a video confession in which he accused an influential businessman of molesting a woman. With all that, it’s hard to pinpoint what the show is. Is this a story similar to Wake Up Sid in which he finds a void in his life? Is this some kind of revelation story where he shows off the killers and saves the day? Is it easy love, smart or mature for new relationships? In the end, Bae’s victories will be lost forever.Ananya shows great behavior as she moves through Bae’s flower pictures. Sometimes she channels the innocent desire of Amelie (Audrey Tautou) from the 2001 French romantic comedy of the same name, and sometimes she becomes the talkative Geet (Kareena Kapoor Khan) from Jab We Met (2009). However, it is not enough to follow us in his other experiences. Vir Das becomes a sketchy character but plays without getting into any serious details. Bae’s best friend Maskan Jaffrey, Saira Ali, stands out with her one-liners and witty lines. Vihaan Samet as Bae’s husband tries to be honest with her, but has little room to stretch his arms in an almost one-note script.Call Me Bae is Dharmatic Entertainment’s third collaboration with Prime Video this year, following previous drama Ae Watan Mere Watan and documentary series Love Storiyaan. The last one is an episode directed by Colin Decona, who used Call Me Bae in his film debut. While his part in Love Storiyaan was still working, he was mostly lost here. There is such a speed in the adjustment that we cannot stay in one situation for long. In a moment, the characters jump to the next scene, and in the blink of an eye, the scene changes. Although it is seen as a reflection of Bae’s enthusiasm and leisure, it is not very sweet. In the end, flashy devices will always be in the corner of slowness.. Movies Call Me Bae Movie 2024
